If you don’t have your own canned tomato sauce, I recommend buying organic, strained tomatoes for pizza sauce. The Bionaturae brand (see picture below) is fairly thick so be sure not to use a brand that is runny or not in glass. The bonus to using this brand is the salad dressing you can make after emptying the jar. I have previously posted a gluten-free bread that is the best I have come across–lately I have been using sprouted brown rice flour instead of almond or tigernut in that recipe. I find this combination makes a softer dough. I use that for the pizza dough.
Makes enough sauce for 1 medium-sized pizza for 2 people.
2 cups Bionaturae organic strained tomatoes
2 cloves garlic
1 medium onion, chopped very fine
sweet basil, 2 Tbsp fresh and chopped fine or 1 Tbsp. dried and crushed
2 tsp ghee
salt to taste
Melt ghee in a sauce pan. Add chopped onion and stir for a few minutes over medium heat. Stir in crushed garlic until mixed well and then pour in the tomatoes. Add the basil and stir again. Salt to taste.
