If you don’t have your own canned tomato sauce, I recommend buying organic, strained tomatoes for pizza sauce. The Bionaturae brand (see picture below) is fairly thick so be sure not to use a brand that is runny or not in glass. The bonus to using this brand is the salad dressing you can make after emptying the jar. I have previously posted a gluten-free bread that is the best I have come across–lately I have been using sprouted brown rice flour instead of almond or tigernut in that recipe. I find this combination makes a softer dough. I use that for the pizza dough.
Makes enough sauce for 1 medium-sized pizza for 2 people.
2 cups Bionaturae organic strained tomatoes
2 cloves garlic
1 medium onion, chopped very fine
sweet basil, 2 Tbsp fresh and chopped fine or 1 Tbsp. dried and crushed
2 tsp ghee
salt to taste
Melt ghee in a sauce pan. Add chopped onion and stir for a few minutes over medium heat. Stir in crushed garlic until mixed well and then pour in the tomatoes. Add the basil and stir again. Medium heat until sauce simmers. Let simmer for 5 minutes and remove from heat. Salt to taste and make your favorite pizza.
